David Maxey’s
DIESEL & ELECTRIC BLUE

Our first venture into book publishing...

BLUE is the COLOUR . . . BR is the NAME  - WHEN British Rail corporate blue was introduced in the 1970s, there were howls of protest from the traditionalists: "Give us back our green!" they cried.

Now, 30 years on, there is genuine nostalgia among those who grew up in the corporate era, many of whom never saw a green diesel or a 'pre-TOPS' electric in everyday service. During that blue period of the 1970s & 1980s, the author roamed the whole country, taking photos to order for various books and magazines, as well as thousands of other shots that were never used. Almost all the locomotives featured in this Book were photographed simply because they were there, as a personal record of the time.

Now they're all gone and this extensive collection has a new purpose - to remind us how our railways used to look before sectorisation, privatisation and electrification changed them forever.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

May I say a big 'THANK YOU' for the book, received last week. As an enthusiast (never really 'spotter', I'm afraid) who started travelling and photographing in the very late 1970s, I love the blue period, and watching
your DVDs ("The Movie" and "2") will give me much pleasure and I am sure, many repeated viewings.

As I was too young to ever be allowed out on my own to see them, the price of the book was worth it just for the blue/grey "Brighton Belle" on page 51!

I hope you and the Visions team can do a third "Blue" DVD - my money will be waiting!
Thanks again - A.W. (by email)

I really enjoyed the book, very entertaining, nice photos and superb quality, well done to David Maxey. Peter L. - (by email)

Great book, it’s so good to see David Maxey in print again, - how about a Railtour Review book? Jon Y. - Derby

Visions do it again, great book, I was a bit sceptical at first that you wouldn’t be able to create the same quality in your books as with your DVDs but I was totally wrong. I can’t wait until the next one. Well done lads on keeping us all so well entertained. Peter S - Bristol
